I think the change from 'documentary' to 'real life' works because it comes at an act change, so it felt natural.

Like other meta-horror-comedies, I think this would work as a film if you hadn't seen any horror films, but it is a much richer experience if you have. And in response to Kevin, I think this might be something along the lines of Cabin in the Woods, but smaller in scale.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08092564511948736386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-31886267790256212642018-06-14T08:29:24.164-05:002018-06-14T08:29:24.164-05:00The Dafoe film that you're probably talking ab...The Dafoe film that you're probably talking about is Shadow of the Vampire, which does have some meta elements, but isn't a film I would put in this genre. The idea of that film is that Max Schreck, who played the creature, was actually a vampire.

Behind the Mask, which is mainly a mockumentary, has a lot more in common with something like This is Spinal Tap than it does with Scream on a lot of fronts. The movie it is most similar to is Man Bites Dog, which is worth tracking down. Didn't Willem Dafoe do a vampire movie like that? Then, of course, there's "Scream" and its ilk, along with "Behind the Mask." Are there a lot of these films?

Anyway, good review. Another film for my to-see list.Kevin Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328790917314282058noreply@blogger.com
