It's the Uncle Creeper factor of the old guy sniffing around girls a quarter of his age that's an instant turn off for me.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-39169253951764398612012-04-12T20:08:58.006-05:002012-04-12T20:08:58.006-05:00We have to disagree about this one. In France, specifically in the upper middle class and beyond, most people are reconciled to the idea that after awhile that their spouses will stray. It is to be done in a discreet fashion, mind you, but it is common practice.Kimberly J.M. They took someone so full of life and made her into a boring "grown up". That was a bit sad to me.

I've seen several reviews here of older films that have themes that are frowned upon in today's world. In most cases it seems that those themes have hurt your viewing experience (and they are usually musicals - Seven Brides, Swing Time, this one.) When I watch older movies I don't judge them by today's standards, but by the time period they were made in and set in. This isn't just for now-objectionable topics, but also for special effects, acting styles, etc. This doesn't mean that I don't notice these things; just that I don't hold it against a film made 60 years ago, like this one.

In the case of Gigi the subject matter didn't bother me, other than I felt they ruined the Gigi character. I liked several of the songs, too.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-81439062929141628472012-04-12T07:51:03.774-05:002012-04-12T07:51:03.774-05:00I'm probably more likely to dislike a musical ...I'm probably more likely to dislike a musical than I am most genres. However this one sounds sickening and I assure you I have no intention whatsoever to waste my time on it. Thank you for the heads-up. The world has so many more interesting movies to offer than this one.Jessicahttp://www.thevelvetcafe.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
