Not with Rules of the Game and Grand Illusion in the contest! - but I'm a sucker for any film set in Peru about a commedia dell'arte troupe, starring Anna Magnani (Love her so much!) and directed by Jean Renoir.

The only serious misstep was having one of the characters be a bullfighter … but no bullfighting scene! The church gets the coach to use for transporting the sick. There are calls for peace and everything calms down.

Camilla is choosing career over men. It's actually pretty modern in that respect.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-43182941709439957252015-03-18T02:37:33.888-05:002015-03-18T02:37:33.888-05:00Steve, I am a little confused. Is Camilla getting anyone? To me it seems like she refuses them all and goes back to the stage. Nobody, but the church gets te coach. Everybody seem quite unhapppy with the ending, at least to me. Well, except for the troupe, which gets its leading lady back. The film's got a French title, but it takes place in a hispanophone region and stars a stable of Italian-sounding actors (except for Paul Campbell and Gisella Matthews). So I have to ask: what language was the dialogue in?Kevin Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328790917314282058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-89437633930936553212013-06-30T17:30:07.093-05:002013-06-30T17:30:07.093-05:00It sounds like I liked this one more than you. I ...It sounds like I liked this one more than you. I don't disagree that the plot is straightforward, nor that the main woman is unlikable. I didn't see her as the main character, though, so her unlikabiliity did not turn me off. It might also be that I had just happened to see Magnani in Oscar nominee The Rose Tattoo, where I found her to be FAR more unlikable, so in comparison she wasn't half bad in this film.

Combine this with the humor in the film and I had a good time. I also really liked the breaking the fourth wall parts at the very beginning and end where a stage play becomes the movie, which goes back to being a stage play at the very end.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-20979056788050934542013-06-30T15:20:11.322-05:002013-06-30T15:20:11.322-05:00It's pretty. This probably disappoints me most because it's Jean Renoir.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
