It gets serious for a moment toward the end, and that feels tonally off. It's otherwise harmless and has a couple of good laughts in it.

Kicking Blood is one you'd be unlikely to enjoy even if it were good since horror is not really your genre. The fact that it's also not very good is just more reason to stay away from it.

I get what you mean about Runaway Jury. It feels like it tried to do too much with what it was, and a good story got lost in search of a great one.

Lost in the shuffle of it staring Elvis is the fact that King Creole was directed by Michael Curtiz, who was actually impressed by the King and thought he'd be a very good actor some day. Sadly, he never hit this kind of high point again.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-35348423794894919952023-03-04T23:07:16.578-06:002023-03-04T23:07:16.578-06:00Cusack may be at that point in his career where he...Cusack may be at that point in his career where he needs to think seriously about television. He'd be good on a show.

I've heard the Jump Street sequel is fun; I may get to it, but at the moment, it's not a terribly high priority. Agree completely about Sessue Hayakawa, also this is one of Claudette’s strongest performances. It came at a price though, she suffered a back injury during filming and had to drop out of what was to be her next role-Margo Channing in All About Eve! She would have made an intriguing Margo, but no one could ever match Bette Davis.

I went into 21 Jump Street with the same low expectations. That was for the best since expecting next to nothing I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be dumb fun even if it had zero relatability to the original show.

I’d slot Downhill into the interesting to see the progression of Hitchcock’s career category rather than an essential. Not bad but not terribly memorable either.

The best part of this version of Death Takes a Holiday was how it captured the proper ethereal quality to fit the story, something woefully missing from Meet Joe Black. I also was a fan of the economy with which the story was told, the Brad version was interminable! There’s a TV movie version as well made in the 70’s and set in contemporary times starring quite the cast-Monte Markham in the lead supported by Yvette Mimieux, Melvyn Douglas and Myrna Loy!!

Eddie Murphy’s Nutty Professor is crap. I’m not the biggest Jerry Lewis fan but I just rewatched his version because of Stella Stevens’s passing and it really is one of his best.

I wanted to LOVE Runaway Jury but ended up thinking it was only pretty good. It looked so promising with that cast and I’m a sucker for courtroom dramas but it ended up being somewhat inert. It needed a stronger directorial hand.

King Creole is Elvis’s best movie because instead of being an “Elvis” movie (not that there aren’t some good ones of those-Viva Las Vegas being the best) it’s a real film where he happens to be the lead. It’s probably also has the strongest all around cast surrounding him which seems to force him to try harder to deliver a performance approaching their level. Carolyn Jones was such a distinctively unique performer, perhaps too much which is why big screen stardom eluded her.

Haven’t seen your other two. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-42555973905311486112023-03-04T18:51:32.797-06:002023-03-04T18:51:32.797-06:0021 Jump Street is a film that surprised the hell o...21 Jump Street is a film that surprised the hell out of me as I laughed my ass off throughout that entire film and I'm surprised that it even worked. It made me a fan of Channing Tatum after that and I highly recommend the sequel which is a way smarter film than what you would you expect in sequels. The Nutty Professor and Friday are comedies I grew up on as a teen while Runaway Jury is a good film though what happened to John Cusack? He's been in some stinkers lately.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
