I agree that the film is slow to get to where it wants to go, but I think that's kind of the point. What happens in the film is something that needs to be uncovered, and so the film itself takes us there at that pace. The languid pacing of The Power Of The Dog almost put me to sleep, and I agree with all you said about Spielberg's West Side Story.

My easy winner is Denis Villeneuve for Dune. My other frontrunners would be Nora Fingscheidt for The Unforgivable and Kevin Macdonald for The Mauritanian.

Others in the conversation: Steven Soderbergh for No Sudden Move; Megan Park for The Fallout; Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Lost Daughter; Alexandre Aja for Oxygen; Pablo Larrain for Spencer; Phillip Noyce for The Desperate Hour; and Navot Papushado for Gunpowder Milkshake.
aceblackblog.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08404695143187261837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-65204928240533485172023-02-10T17:43:41.489-06:002023-02-10T17:43:41.489-06:00I think Campion was the clear choice for this Osca...I think Campion was the clear choice for this Oscar, and I think most of the other nominees would agree.

2003 was a great year for directors, to be fair.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-8049487415310673722023-02-10T17:41:10.329-06:002023-02-10T17:41:10.329-06:00I am happy to have avoided being chastised.I am happy to have avoided being chastised.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-81655399970912735922023-02-10T16:08:29.188-06:002023-02-10T16:08:29.188-06:00While it would've been more interesting with D...While it would've been more interesting with Denis Villeneuve in the mix yet this is where the Oscars made the right choice with Jane Campion. Now let's get Sofia Coppola to win her Best Director Oscar which she should've won instead of Peter Jackson.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-66652584452260043182023-02-10T14:21:31.188-06:002023-02-10T14:21:31.188-06:00I'm glad you agree Oscar got it right or else ...I'm glad you agree Oscar got it right or else we would've had words lmao.
