One of the things I really like about it is that a film like Kumonosu-Jo doesn't have to cut much.

One of the great joys of Ran is that we get all of the samurai pageantry in color. While the black-and-white cinematography does work well for the dark themes (this is almost a samurai noir). I'd love to see all of the colors, though. Had I your relation to Macbeth I would likely also be totally psycked about Throne of Blood. As it is, it is merely awesome, enjoyable and exciting and that is par for a Kurosawa movie.

Somehow I think this works better in B/W than in color. The sense of impending doom is difficult to do well in color.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-27722907012405868022012-03-28T00:44:37.600-05:002012-03-28T00:44:37.600-05:00I like Ran, but I'm far more personally attune...I like Ran, but I'm far more personally attuned to Macbeth. That said, I haven't yet seen a Kurosawa film that I haven't loved. Not just liked, but loved.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-41617966523867671942012-03-27T22:46:11.140-05:002012-03-27T22:46:11.140-05:00I'm surprised this would be your fav Kurosawa,...I'm surprised this would be your fav Kurosawa,I prefer Ran to this one as a Shakespeare adaption.and yes,Kurosawa films are always enjoyable.Davidhttp://www.tasteofcinema.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-2991312631403823992012-03-25T16:27:01.608-05:002012-03-25T16:27:01.608-05:00I agree. I love The Seven Samurai as well, and it's probably a hair's breadth below this one.

One of the reasons I love Throne of Blood is for the same reason I love Macbeth--it's efficient. It's murder and treason and death and ghosts, and it tells the story quickly and effectively. And it doesn't hurt that Macbeth is my favorite Shakespeare.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-81193032709171206632012-03-25T14:13:10.913-05:002012-03-25T14:13:10.913-05:00Great review. I'd have Seven Samurai above it on my list, but Throne of Blood is a truly great film, too. I don't give very many five star ratings, but Throne of Blood definitely deserved the one I gave to it.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
