She's the main reason that films like Cold Mountain, Jerry Maguire, and Bridget Jones's Diary are still on my unwatched list.

Seeing Georgia as Judy Garland is interesting, and if that's the intent, I agree with you on the problem being Simon's script. I'd have never made the connection. I like McNichol here more than you, since I think she adds a nice amount of rationality to what is otherwise a bunch of crazy people running around being crazy.

One and done sounds about right to me. From what I understand Georgia is based at least partly on Judy Garland but she's missing those bewitching qualities that people mention about Judy which made them tolerate her maddening behavior. She's merely prickly without the charming magnetism that would compensate for her petty, difficult and sometimes cruel behavior. That fault lies in Simon's writing not her portrayal.

As far as the rest of the cast, I like Coco but thought his performance was kind of mushy in this, I don't see it as nomination worthy and McNichol aside from one big scene didn't make much of an impact for me but that again seems the fault of the script since it doesn't seem to know what it wants her to be.

I LOVE Joan Hackett and was glad she was nominated for this, that scene you mentioned is beautifully done, though I suspect that this was partly a career acknowledgement nod since it was well known at the time that she was battling terminal cancer and would die shortly afterwards.

I'm not sorry I watched it and didn't hate the film but it's lesser Simon and once was enough.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.com
