Also agree that this was Peter Jackson's year and rightly so. He may have tarnished the Tolkien universe with his out of control direction of The Hobbit films, but The Lord of the Rings trilogy is fantastically directed.Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-91661287353869105072015-11-15T14:21:26.367-06:002015-11-15T14:21:26.367-06:00Eh, I didn't include that for a reason. I may be undervaluing Coppola's work here, but Weir's work on the massive action sequences put him third for me, and I think City of God is about perfect, so there was no other place to put Lost in Translation.

I could understand rearranging 2-4 on this list. I think you are underestimating Coppola's effort here. There are compositions and counterpoints that could only come from a perceptive director. Then again, it is tough competition in a strong year and you have a point with the action on Master and Commander.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-17841525133789667332015-11-13T22:36:37.619-06:002015-11-13T22:36:37.619-06:00That really shows the director's talent, doesn...That really shows the director's talent, doesn't it? Meirelles obviously did a great deal of excellent work on City of God and got tremendous performances from his cast. Weir, though, made a riskier film in terms of the action sequences and I really think he knocked it out of the park.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-24607838650008609122015-11-13T14:53:36.439-06:002015-11-13T14:53:36.439-06:00I love both City of God and Master and Commander, ...I love both City of God and Master and Commander, but trying to look at it from as objective a viewpoint as I can, I think you got the order right. City of God was the last 10 I gave on my blog until the 2013 additions, and I without qualm called it a perfect film, so you'd think I would have switched Meirelles and Weir, but City of God was so good because of everyone involved, and not just Meirelles; it was a true team effort, whereas Master and Commander works largely because of Weir and his captainship (hee) of the various departments working on the film. You might catch flack for the order, but for me, I'd say it was a good call.Adolytsihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12266038228108057617noreply@blogger.com
