He's still got the steps here, which is great to see.

Then again, I'm pretty much of the opinion that Cagney could do just about anything he wanted.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-39150399583534547992017-10-12T20:19:11.092-05:002017-10-12T20:19:11.092-05:00It has been years (read decades) since I've se...It has been years (read decades) since I've seen this but I do remember it as being more of a typical Hope vehicle than a real presentation of Foy and his kids. I'm not much of a Bob Hope fan-I do however respect the hell out of him for his tireless devotion to the armed forces-I just rarely find him funny. His earlier stuff is much better than the calcified leering older version of him.

The idea of Cagney taking over the lead is intriguing and surely would have lead to a much better film.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-8389290283205183042017-10-12T09:45:44.162-05:002017-10-12T09:45:44.162-05:00Glad to know it's not just me. Such a weird tone for a film like this when it was made.

My guess is that the film was made to serve as a vehicle for Hope's brand of one-liners. I'm more inclined to trust Cagney on this one.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-1609896912576397562017-10-12T09:20:44.239-05:002017-10-12T09:20:44.239-05:00I'm glad to hear that the real Foy wasn't ...I'm glad to hear that the real Foy wasn't the totally insensitive, career-above-all-else obsessed, Foy as played by Hope. Watching the film, I couldn't help but hate Foy/Hope for watch he put his wife and kids through.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-67699549706308560302017-10-11T14:13:30.998-05:002017-10-11T14:13:30.998-05:00This isn't a terrible movie, but it's got ...This isn't a terrible movie, but it's got a long way to go to be considered a very good one. It's just tonally weird. Hope's relationship with the kids is antagonistic more than anything else, so the film doesn't earn the ending it gets.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-63358470950841810902017-10-11T13:31:09.478-05:002017-10-11T13:31:09.478-05:00I saw this as a kid and I don't really remembe...I saw this as a kid and I don't really remember it that well, except that I hated it! I also didn't like Bob Hope for a very long time, mostly because of this movie, but I finally warmed to him because of the Road movies with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour.

Since then, I've warmed to most of his 1930s and 1940s work and even a little into the 1950s (I love Here Come the Girls). But at some point, he started making AWFUL movies and some of his 1960s films are close to unwatchable. Although Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number! is barely watchable because Elke Sommer is nearly naked most of the time.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.com
