I'm not sure where I said it first, (possibly The Cloud-Capped Star but I'm not sure) but it's a phrase that makes an appearance here now and then. On an acting basis I thought it was good and interesting to see Scott play something besides the slick weasel he was typecast as. The rest of the cast gave good performances as well but it was unremittingly sad and I've never been tempted to go back and watch it again.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-90687123681792343262016-03-25T09:44:11.986-05:002016-03-25T09:44:11.986-05:00I don't disagree. It tries to end on a positive note and for my money, it fails completely.

I don't see a great deal of nobility in suffering. I just see suffering. It really more or less comes down to the idea that I've seen essentially the same film a bunch of times and seen it done a lot better in other places.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-44171583401513654632016-03-25T09:36:05.915-05:002016-03-25T09:36:05.915-05:00I wouldn't call Sam rock stupid but rather roc...I wouldn't call Sam rock stupid but rather rock ignorant (not educated in the least) and maybe even extremely anxiety ridden when it comes to change. Hell, even many highly educated people need copious amounts of alcohol or legal/illegal drugs to help them get through the trials and tribulations of everyday life.

Anyway, while I was not a huge fan of this film, it does relate to the lives of many of the less fortunate around us that many of us are rather blind to (the poor, homeless, disabled, drug users, alcoholics, mentally disturbed, abused, etc.). Personally, I do find that films that are along the lines of the recently, late Earl Hamner's, life-affirming Spencer's Mountain (eventually known as TV's "The Walton's") are more my cup of tea as they at least offer hope that the future will be better.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-9927743385290351812016-03-25T00:52:28.960-05:002016-03-25T00:52:28.960-05:00It's worth noting that I'm evidently in th...It's worth noting that I'm evidently in the minority on this one. Your mileage may well vary. I've seen the same story better, though.
