Operation: Daybreak from 1975 told the same story and is also good (and obscure). aceblackblog.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08404695143187261837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-3603818228208928932022-08-13T06:35:54.668-05:002022-08-13T06:35:54.668-05:00Psycho Goreman is very much not your style of film...Psycho Goreman is very much not your style of film and I can't imagine that you would find anything there worth your time. I do like that kind of movie and I barely found it worth my time.

You would appreciate Anthropoid, though. Great cast, good story, well acted--there's a lot to recommend it.

Pleasantville is a lovely film, and it shouldn't be on this list of movies. This is a film that, for all of its heavy-handed symbolism, should have either been on at least one of my respective Oscar lists or the 1001 Movies list. Such a great look and though...I LOVE Pleasantville! Such a great look and though the symbolism is probably heavy-handed in parts the cast and director never let it overwhelm the story. Tobey & Reese make amusing siblings and I think this was the last film of J.T. Walsh, sad but a fine swan song, my big question however is how the hell Joan Allen didn't snag a nomination for this beautiful piece of work!

Coffy is a fun throwaway. Pam Grier makes it worth seeing.

They Died with Their Boots on is so much hogwash but Errol and Livvy's chemistry is so strong and the supporting cast stacked with the Warners stock company that it passes easily. Still it will never replace Dodge City or Adventures of Robin Hood as the best place to see the pair.

I haven't seen the others (and never will see those Hobbit films-I endure the LOTR flicks only because I made the mistake of watching the first one and had to know how they ended) but Anthropoid sounds worth tracking down. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-33984274508728006322022-08-08T16:29:52.403-05:002022-08-08T16:29:52.403-05:00My biggest issue is just how unnecessary most of t...My biggest issue is just how unnecessary most of the dwarves are. There are possibilities here for some moments watching all six films in a row. Knowing just how decent Balin is, for instance, adds a lot of sorrow to finding his tomb in the first LotR film. But it's all for nothing.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-62270165286427870372022-08-08T14:55:48.101-05:002022-08-08T14:55:48.101-05:00Totally agree on The Hobbit. But man, it's way too long with ridiculous action sequences (the stone giants? the escape from the wood elves?) that were just flat unnecessary. Would be much better as a leaner two films.Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-88456193244401957112022-08-07T22:21:29.333-05:002022-08-07T22:21:29.333-05:00The Hobbit films really felt like a cash grab. They could've maybe gotten away with two films, but three was ridiculous, and it showed.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-90132248987764569012022-08-06T20:30:27.477-05:002022-08-06T20:30:27.477-05:00Pleasantville is a film that I do love as it still...Pleasantville is a film that I do love as it still holds up. The Hobbit would've been better if it was just one entire film but it didn't need to be three. That's why I didn't enjoy it as I felt the bloated aspect of it wasn't necessary. Fortunately, the long-form storytelling did work for The Beatles: Get Back which is a film that I fucking love.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
