But can you imagine what Cary Grant could've done with this role?

William Holden would've been an interesting choice.

This is one I'd happily watch again. Seriously Betty Bacall's clothes are amazing, as are Dolores Gray's even if hers are more extreme which suits the over the top quality of her character.

Speaking of Gray she's so enjoyable I've always wondered why her film output is so small. She did four films in rapid succession scoring strongly in all of them and that was it, she only appeared in a few TV things for the rest of her career...maybe she preferred the stage.

Bacall is much more at home in the material than Peck, who I agree doesn't seem wholly at ease. The part screams out for Cary Grant, although I could see William Holden working well too. Gregory's not bad but he does hold the film back. However he was mightily supportive of Bacall throughout as she dealt with Bogie's rapidly worsening condition and they remain fast friends for the remainder of Peck's life so perhaps it was meant to be.

This is a trifle but a most enjoyable one and sometimes that's just what you need.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-76637205258471951652016-01-14T11:42:46.914-06:002016-01-14T11:42:46.914-06:00I wasn't clear. My first thought was, "Was Bogart part of the cast and Steve is only just now mentioning him?"
