It's a complete deconstruction of what film is--it's missing essentially everything that makes a film a film. There's nothing in Vinyl that qualifies as being worthy of being called a film, and yet it's a film.

Pink Flamingos does that, but with taste.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-44809007898420565252021-02-18T15:43:35.729-06:002021-02-18T15:43:35.729-06:00Well, I suppose that answers the "why it was ...Well, I suppose that answers the "why it was made" question? Why anybody would want to watch this or why this is considered important I do not know.
Stupid, infantile, disgusting, pointless.
It is one thing to intend to make a good film and make all the wrong decisions (The Room). That is actually funny. It is something else to deliberately make something stupid. No funny, just idiotic.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-63918914215516499212013-09-11T22:48:24.786-05:002013-09-11T22:48:24.786-05:00I don't think it's a good film, either. But--and this is actually really important in my opinion--Waters wanted to make something that would be censored down to nothing, and then not let the censors have it. It's a bad film, but it's a bad film that is specifically geared for the intent Waters wanted, and I admit a grudging respect. In other words, it's shitty in exactly the right way to make his point, and there's a particular genius behind that.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-20892319611724972802013-09-11T22:20:59.901-05:002013-09-11T22:20:59.901-05:00Put me on the side of just because someone intenti...Put me on the side of just because someone intentionally sets out to make a bad film that doesn't mean it's good when the movie sucks. Irreversible falls into this category, too. The director set out to piss off as many people in the audience as possible and he achieved that. That doesn't make it a good film, though. At least not to me.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-23525236419107105842013-09-11T20:18:09.159-05:002013-09-11T20:18:09.159-05:00Honestly, it's all I had. Do we really need 100 minutes of this? No.

I thought you did a really nice job focusing on Waters' intent. Sometimes that's hard to do with this movie; all I can see is the bad. But, as you point out, it's done with intent, and so what does that mean? It changes how the film is viewed. I don't think it completely redeems it, but it's something.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-18909442093367079962013-09-11T16:15:13.995-05:002013-09-11T16:15:13.995-05:00I completely agree. I'm glad I saw it once.

I've been putting off seeing it again because seeing it twice in a lifetime is really pushing it.1001: A Film Odyssey is produced, directed and written by Chris, a librarian.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04803620768028761898noreply@blogger.com
