It might have worked in the 1940s, but it's upsettingly retrograde these days. I'm not even sure that the plot hole you mention worked at the time; it certainly doesn't work now. The pair team magnificently as always and Hepburn is at the peak of her unique beauty, she looks amazing at the baseball game in that hat, but their characters aren’t that great.

Tracy is irascible and selfish but overall a decent enough guy however Hepburn is often a callous bitch who it’s hard to warm to. The great Fay Bainter and the rest of the excellent supporting cast smooth the way a great deal but with such prickly leads it’s a rough go. The scene that really irked me was in the kitchen near the end. Where supposed to believe take Tess who has been all over the world, roughing it to get many stories has no clue how to make a pot of coffee or the most basic foods? Come on!!!!!!!!!! It’s insulting not only to the character but the audience’s intelligence. Give me the sweet and more balanced Desk Set any day.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-48960795175968559432016-07-27T06:15:50.608-05:002016-07-27T06:15:50.608-05:00In that respect, this is still a film worth seeing...In that respect, this is still a film worth seeing. There are a lot of people who still think a woman's place is standing behind her man. It does have a particular charm to it, and most of that comes from Tracy and Hepburn.

Interesting that even modern films seem to hit that same one note.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-36315135848627053212016-07-27T03:38:12.121-05:002016-07-27T03:38:12.121-05:00Your watching of this film seems quite timely, con...Your watching of this film seems quite timely, considering the events in US politics!

I approach the dated gender politics with the feeling 'Thank goodness we've moved on,' though that is not entirely true (at least according to some).

As you say, Tracy and Hepburn are brilliant together; the first time they clap eyes on each other is a masterclass in attraction at first sight! Like Bogey and Bacall, they are dynamite on screen together. Yeah, you are successful, but are you a real woman? oh my...
Despite that I can watch Hepburn and Tracy any day. That is chemistry.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
