I'm not saying that's bad or wrong.

As for the anger in the film, I felt it immediately. Part of that--much of that, really--is Kevin Spacey, since no one brims with barely suppressed contempt the way he does. And Lester is an angry guy. He's angry at what his life has become, what his wife has turned into, the indignity of fighting for his job at the behest of some newer, younger jackass.

I'm not saying it's the only thing there--it's most certainly not. But I found it really aggressive. I enjoyed it; don't get me wrong. I'd happily watch it again. But I see it very much in the way I titled it--the two films have a lot of similar themes, not the least of them being the desire to break out of the mold society puts us in.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-54807239958313701222013-07-12T22:55:55.528-05:002013-07-12T22:55:55.528-05:00I have to admit, I've never seen this film as ...I have to admit, I've never seen this film as you describe it - brimming with tons of anger. I'm not saying that I believe you are wrong in any way, I'm just saying that the anger of the characters would be way down the list of the things I took from this film. It also never would have occurred to me to compare it to Fight Club. Again, not saying it's wrong to do that, just that it's a new concept to me. That's part of what's interesting in reading others' thoughts on films.

What I took from this primarily was the combination of comedy and drama. In fact, at the time it came out it was a breath of fresh air for me in that it wasn't so damn heavy like most Oscar contenders were. Sure, there is a death in it, but we are told that in the opening scene, so we have plenty of time to know it is coming. I laughed quite a bit at this film - far more than I expected to. I remember back after it came out all I'd have to say to a female co-worker who'd also seen it to get her giggling was "Who's the king!"Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
