I think it is on my book list but I would need to live well past 100 years to get to it.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-71502927968746641012012-07-16T06:43:36.358-05:002012-07-16T06:43:36.358-05:00The book is great. I also recommend reading through chapter 20 and then waiting a day, if only to experience the book both in its original (filmed) American version and then with the ending Burgess intended.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-43010216409895698272012-07-16T01:01:30.848-05:002012-07-16T01:01:30.848-05:00I love your comment re: Kubrick and steak. Dr. Strangelove could be considered the best comedy out there if you like your comedy black (I do, but my fav comedy is Monty Python's The Holy Grail). 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably the best Sci Fi film. Heck, I could totally see people saying Paths of Glory or Full Metal Jacket is the best War movie (me its All Quiet on the Western Front), and that Spartacus is the best Gladiator movie. Yeah, Kubrick is pretty much the best at everything, or close to it.Kurosawa_Lovernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-50637797547285945602011-07-16T16:13:23.089-05:002011-07-16T16:13:23.089-05:00Picking a favorite Kubrick film is sort of like pi...Picking a favorite Kubrick film is sort of like picking a favorite cut of steak. Even if we both disagree, we're still both getting steak.

That said, there are parts of The Shining that are as good as anything ever filmed. But start to finish, I think I'd go with Dr. Strangelove.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-73095211058703437672011-07-16T05:32:46.787-05:002011-07-16T05:32:46.787-05:00By the way, if this is not your favorite Kubrick f...By the way, if this is not your favorite Kubrick film, which one is?Kurosawa_Lovernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-28716798416407645052011-07-15T13:06:49.118-05:002011-07-15T13:06:49.118-05:00I read Burgess's book when I was far too young...I read Burgess's book when I was far too young, and didn't realize that there was a 21st chapter until I was much older. Having read the abridged and unabridged versions...I like both. The last chapter actually makes a great deal of sense--it's not so much about Alex having a change of heart as it is about him growing up.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-65791692378811854192011-07-14T17:29:03.361-05:002011-07-14T17:29:03.361-05:00Great review once again. Its true that Kubrick did not know about the "happy" ending of Burgess' original novel, but when he read it after the film he told Malcolm McDowell not to even bother reading it (if you can, get a copy of this film with McDowell providing commentary, its really interesting). He thought the happy ending was tacked on and senseless, and although I have never read the book (I plan to) I just cant see Alex ever realistically having a change of heart. I heat one of his old droogs changes his life, and that makes sense, but Alex seems like he will always be Alex.Kurosawa_Lovernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-76986258076042228692011-06-28T18:13:57.812-05:002011-06-28T18:13:57.812-05:00Hey I really like your website and I was wondering...Hey I really like your website and I was wondering if you would like to write for mine!
