I tend to really like his films (I found a lot to love in Rushmore, for example), but I can see them being rough or uninteresting or just too odd.

I'm not an Anderson snob, by the way. I don't think any less of people who don't gravitate toward his end of the swimming pool. I imagine, though, that Wes Anderson snobs exist in the real world, and when they meet a group of David Lynch snobs, there is a battle that takes place involving a low-frequency droning, severed ears, and people with strange hobbies in bathrobes while a vintage Roy Orbison song plays in the background.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-85965126716485183452012-05-31T18:02:55.218-05:002012-05-31T18:02:55.218-05:00I liked this better than Rushmore, but since I did...I liked this better than Rushmore, but since I didn't see what all the hype was with Rushmore, that's not high praise. After this I did watch The Life Aquatic, which I also liked some, and I haven't bothered with any other of Anderson's films since.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-9724349525750014772012-05-29T12:51:50.302-05:002012-05-29T12:51:50.302-05:00Agreed. However, the last 20 minutes or so of the film really show the impact that family can have regardless of our personalities, and that regardless of our inherent strangeness, there are ties that bind.

Anderson's films tend to reflect reality in a lot of ways to me. I think most people are odd and quirky in a lot of ways. We tend to hide that, and Anderson exposes it. The Tenenbaums are "weird" only in that their quirks are not our quirks. We'd look just as weird to them, I imagine.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-85866058227764725452012-05-29T10:10:29.136-05:002012-05-29T10:10:29.136-05:00I get while a lot of people talk about the zanines...I get while a lot of people talk about the zaniness, but underneath it all, I find it to be a very sympathetic film about the tenuous relationships between family that can be strengthened in times of hardship and trouble. It annoys me how much people go on about Anderson's style because I think that it's what is underneath that makes his films so compelling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-3220956575793769372012-05-24T01:45:29.751-05:002012-05-24T01:45:29.751-05:00I was immediately sucked in by the improvisational...I was immediately sucked in by the improvisational performances in the opening sequences, and this is the first time I like Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Stiller so much.I agree with you, this is Anderson style sentiment at its best.Davidhttp://www.tasteofcinema.com/noreply@blogger.com
