It's pretty great.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-86965718420098775442018-06-09T17:36:04.150-05:002018-06-09T17:36:04.150-05:00Yeah, she doesn't do it for me in Robin Hood. ...Yeah, she doesn't do it for me in Robin Hood. Look for The Snake Pit or The Heiress the next time TCM plays them. Really. I enjoyed it and agree it's definitely Old Hollywood. Two things.

One, it's absolutely obvious that this is the basis for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. The Spanish attack on Port Royal has all the elements that would become part of the ride a couple of decades later. That was fun to see.

And two, I have never understood the appeal of Olivia de Havilland until I saw this movie. In Gone with the Wind she is dour and not particular attractive, frankly. But in this she is young, beautiful and immensely appealing. I finally get why she was an early star of Hollywood.
Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-20793989301134444562011-12-05T08:48:57.434-06:002011-12-05T08:48:57.434-06:00You may well be right. I haven't seen much of Fairbanks.

Folks who don't like old Hollywood won't find much to entertain them here, but those who appreciate the older films can't fail to enjoy it. As for Robin Hood, I think perhaps I'm too familiar with it. Though I do put The Adventures of Robin Hood over it.

But you can't start Hollywood's romanticization of pirates with Captain Blood - gotta go back at least to Fairbanks' 1926 The Black Pirate for that!Jandy Stonehttp://www.rowthree.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-14174660813989549562011-12-03T20:28:33.486-06:002011-12-03T20:28:33.486-06:00Have a SUPER weekend !Have a SUPER weekend !Pinecone Stewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00458622319448551558noreply@blogger.com
