I wish he was better known, because he was born for roles like this one. Sure, it's almost fatally dumb at a couple of points (the scene in the barn where it looks like John Payne went on a murder rampage is pretty silly) but most of the way it's action-packed and doesn't strain credibility too much more than your average Western.

The similarities to High Noon are very superficial. I wouldn't have even noticed it at all if it wasn't mentioned in this post. I think Silver Lode has as much in common with something like The Ox-Bow Incident as it does with High Noon.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-22665849418933068992015-09-01T13:32:57.571-05:002015-09-01T13:32:57.571-05:00I think there's a level of plausible deniabili...I think there's a level of plausible deniability here. After all, the author of "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" went on record as saying that the story wasn't either anti-communist or anti-McCarthyism. It was just a story.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-14633581569929706832015-09-01T06:50:20.918-05:002015-09-01T06:50:20.918-05:00Yes, this is not even close to High Noon, but it i...Yes, this is not even close to High Noon, but it is quite effective at what it does and I was not suffering watching this one. I agree it's not as good as High Noon, but still worth seeing.

One note: if your defintion of "western" is "gunslinger in the old west" then you are done with them. Depending on how broad your definition is, there may be a couple more coming your way.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
