Remember that most people watching the movie would not have known much of anything about Turing, so the movie was intentionally using that to create suspense for the eventual reveal.

For what it's worth, the 2001 film Enigma emphasized the spy story, too. It even made Turing (or at least the character based on him) straight.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-73764362220905734912015-11-06T07:46:08.197-06:002015-11-06T07:46:08.197-06:00Yeah--that's exactly it. I understand that events need to be truncated or changed in some respects for time and other considerations, but when something undergoes major changes for the sake of narrative that then deviates significantly from the actual truth, I just find it disappointing. Especially when the original story doesn't need it.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-25451832524205111332015-11-06T03:24:35.144-06:002015-11-06T03:24:35.144-06:00When I watched movie I was hugely impressed and no...When I watched movie I was hugely impressed and not a little moved. Learning however shortly after how much of the story was invented for dramatic effect made me very angry. As you correctly put it this story is rich enough as it is.
On a general not this happens very often and changes stories that are unique enough to create unique movies into generic mainstream. I would much rather watch an odd and inconclusive story I never saw before than a proven story arc I have watched countless times before. I admit that abbreviations are often needed as well as simplifications to prove a point, but not adding movie tropes for dramatic effect.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
