Rita Hayworth did, and so did Barbara Stanwyck.

You might look into Olivia de Havilland--not only quite the looker in many a film, she had serious acting chops, and often downplayed her looks for the sake of a plum role (like The Heiress and The Snake Pit).SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-76621942439764110792013-03-05T03:35:26.865-06:002013-03-05T03:35:26.865-06:00Funny enough, while I liked "Sullivan's T...Funny enough, while I liked "Sullivan's Travels" it was for almost opposite reasons. To me this was essentially a silly farce and I loved it for it, but I found the drama at the end forced and pasted on, like, huh, where did that come from? suddenly it was not so funny anymore.

I think Rita and Barbara will have to make a serious comeback to wipe Veronica down from the top spot my personal list of hotties of the fortiesTSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-79969207352737323302012-09-26T15:17:55.166-05:002012-09-26T15:17:55.166-05:00She really was pretty damn gorgeous.

When they get out of the car to start their "adventure," Sullivan says to her, "You look about as much like a boy as Mae West" or something to that effect.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-75472680026071009492012-09-26T13:21:15.839-05:002012-09-26T13:21:15.839-05:00The only thing I remember about this film(which I ...The only thing I remember about this film(which I saw 12 months ago) is how beautiful Veronica Lake looked. The story kind of washed over me and was soon forgotten. It was a little joke I enjoyed while watching Sullivan's Travels. As I wrote on another Sullivan's Travels review, I never really bought Lake as a boy, but it's one of those things you just have to go with, like no one recognizing Clark Kent as Superman because of his glasses.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-38011229859374710942012-09-24T09:00:36.875-05:002012-09-24T09:00:36.875-05:00The first time I saw this, I was really surprised ...The first time I saw this, I was really surprised by the name of the film within the film. It was a "...Hey, that's..." moment followed by a slow smile. Well played, Joel and Ethan. I think he was the epitome of a flash in the pan. Though he did a few films besides the one's from a 3 three year period deemed notable in "The Book" his creativity just was not consistent. I liked the rat-a-tat screwball dialog in the "The Palm Beach Story". If there is another noteworthy Sturges film I would have to say it was "Hail, The Conquering Hero". I think that the Coen Brothers have borrower MORE from Sturges than the "O Brother" title, feeling they have redefined the screwball comedy on many planes, albeit, they are not pigeon-holed to the genre.Ken Loarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17207009680910318145noreply@blogger.com
