It's possible to be a Woody Allen fan and not love it, but I think it's a lot more difficult, and that most of the people who don't like it are going to be lesser fans of Allen's work. Thanks to TCM I was finally able to see it again a few days ago. This second viewing did not prompt my memories, except for the scene where Woody is converting to Catholicism.

It's an OK movie, and I certainly was never bored or annoyed. But I was never really moved either. Though it was nice to see Lloyd Nolan, who I didn't know about in the 1980s, but in the last few years, I've seen several of the Michael Shayne movies and they're great!

If I want to see a Woody Allen movie from this period, I'll much more likely watch Broadway Danny Rose again. I've seen that a bunch of times.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-38105043766901621362012-12-10T12:47:20.814-06:002012-12-10T12:47:20.814-06:00I never met a Woody Allen film that I didn't l...I never met a Woody Allen film that I didn't like - or at least, wasn't amusing. I generally get tired of his stuff whenever Mia Farrow is in it, but I really love Hannah and Her Sisters. It has such a complexity and a sort of dark humor to it. This film falls somewhere in the middle for me. I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't put it among his top films, either.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-48918746872807379952012-12-06T13:34:57.805-06:002012-12-06T13:34:57.805-06:00Dianne Wiest can be so entertaining, and I really ...Dianne Wiest can be so entertaining, and I really like her in this a lot.
