Now, I must track down the audio version read by Don's son. Thanks for the info.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-3430903272718924942019-03-02T08:48:34.887-06:002019-03-02T08:48:34.887-06:00I like the Hawks movie, but it's in many ways ...I like the Hawks movie, but it's in many ways a completely different animal than Carpenter's version and this one. Carpenter's film is very much a complete reimagining of the creature and the entire set-up, and this prequel very much wants to be a remake of Carpenter.

I genuinely like the Carpenter film better, primarily because of how much it ramps up the paranoia, which only makes it feel that much more claustrophobic. That and it has a particular personal meaning for me. If you track down the review here (I double-featured it with Poltergeist), the story is there. It's one of those moments where, even if the movie was terrible, I'd love it for other reasons. Because of that, it's always going to be my favorite version of this story.

For the record, the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers is absolutely my favorite version of that story (the first remake is very good). If you haven't read the original book, it's worth tracking down. It's especially worth tracking down if you can find the audio version read by Don Siegel's son. Personally, "The Thing from Another World!" and the original "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" scared the hell out of me and none of the remakes every really did them justice (Carpenter's came closest) with what they were able to accomplish with just very tight scripts and even tighter budgets.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.com
