I can't imagine wanting to watch it a second time. It was interesting, and certainly a hell of a lot better than this one. It was one of the last two of the 30's best actress nominees I hadn't seen. The other, the elusive "Valiant is the Word for Carrie" which I have higher hopes for since Gladys George was a more varied actress than Merle Oberon. Hopefully TCM will show it sometime as they did with this.

I didn't hate the film but it did have a high "Oh come on!" factor. I realize that being blind at the time was much more of a handicap than it is now but couldn't he respect his friends intelligence and compassion enough to let them make their own decisions? Frustrating. March, Marshall and Merle do what they can to make it passable but I'll never watch it again.

I don't understand how Oberon was nominated for this and ignored for her much better work in Wuthering Heights but the nominees this year are all pretty wonky. How she snared a nomination over Stanwyck in Annie Oakley, Garbo in Anna Karenina, Madeleine Carroll in 39 Steps or Carole Lombard in Hands Across the Table is mystifying. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-57166967650162250562015-02-27T09:49:31.776-06:002015-02-27T09:49:31.776-06:00I haven't seen this and probably never will. I...I haven't seen this and probably never will. It sounds like it is trying to capitalize on the popularity of the film 7th Heaven (1927), which if you haven't seen it yet, you will (Best Picture nominee). The two have some superficial similarities. For what it's worth, I liked 7th Heaven. It reminded me some of The Big Parade (1925).Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-18848427967924520472015-02-27T06:47:48.915-06:002015-02-27T06:47:48.915-06:00A shame.
