I see all the point for it, so I put it down to needing a rewatch. This is a movie that works in the detail more than as a whole and those details require that you look closely.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-60779478767444347602018-12-19T02:20:58.993-06:002018-12-19T02:20:58.993-06:00Sedmikraky started out fun but definitely overstay...Sedmikraky started out fun but definitely overstayed its welcome. For me it was not so much the drawn out scenes as the infantile nihilism that wore me out. I simply got sick of the girls.
Also I think you probably understood this movie better than I did.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-73337833555997269642018-03-21T19:39:55.273-05:002018-03-21T19:39:55.273-05:00Yeah, I think it's great. Daisies is ...Nice to see the focus on Czech films.

Daisies is one of my favorites. I admit the free (chaotic) and fun (the world is my sandbox) spirit on display is not for everyone, but I still think everyone should give it a watch.

Trains is a very sweet movie with plenty of charm even in its darkest moments, and that is one of the director, Jirí Menzel's traits. See also: Crime in a Music Hall, Capricious Summer, and especially Larks on a String. Also I totally agree with siochemibio, that stamp scene is marvelous.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00597866901901238462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-23452631145757889942013-05-20T12:37:29.653-05:002013-05-20T12:37:29.653-05:00Oh, I love the stamp sequence. Even better is the reaction of the telegraphist as she has to retell the story of it over the indignation of her mother over and over.

I accept the ending of Closely Watched Trains. I just want a different one.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-88593529034025150052013-05-20T12:12:17.183-05:002013-05-20T12:12:17.183-05:00Nice reviews, and an interesting pairing. Other than the fact that they are both Czech, I don't really think of these two movies in the same context.

Given that the 1001 Club has already reviewed Daisies, I'll be watching that again this summer, but you said it all perfectly - it's just weird. And odd. But still somewhat watchable.

I looooooooooooved Closely Watched Trains; I actually own it on DVD, I liked it so much. While I *think* I know what you mean about liking a different ending, I'll add that the ending is what really took it from just a nice little film to something... more. Whatever I was expecting from Closely Watched Trains, it wasn't a little sex comedy, but that's really what it is. I love that he took the job at the train station because he's lazy. I love the sex scene with the stamps.

"who has the face of a boy and the eyes of a man deep in suffering"

wow, great line.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
