You can nitpick parts or compare it to New Hope, but when a story is really clicking, it doesn't matter. That's the feeling that I got watching The Force Awakens. It takes a real skill to deliver that type of adventure (Abrams also did it with the first Star Trek reboot) and make it feel effortless, and that's mostly here. Abrams in regards to simply redoing the plot of a popular earlier movie. Thankfully, though, he left his paint mixer camera stand and lens flare generators at home when he made this.

I described this as not as good as eps 4 and 5, better than eps 1 and 2, and about on par with eps 3 and 6.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-19377885921974613002016-02-01T07:54:01.658-06:002016-02-01T07:54:01.658-06:00I did like that it seemed like a return to some di...I did like that it seemed like a return to some dirt and grit. What really made it great was the cinematography: the whole film looked beautiful, and the opening shot of the spacecraft was a wonderful riff on the original, iconic opening.

Gone is the ugly CGI of the Lucas prequels! I'm kind of okay with it, though, because the series needed to have something like a return to form, and maybe by doing something similar to the first movie we can get a return to it.

Let's hope the next one is different enough from Empire that it won't invite immediate comparisons. It promises us something new, but in a universe we are very familiar with. Which is why I am a bit disappointed that the "new" remains an unfulfilled promise.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-25933519259056086672016-01-31T15:49:52.390-06:002016-01-31T15:49:52.390-06:00I enjoyed it too and look forward to the next two ...I enjoyed it too and look forward to the next two in the trilogy. I love the new characters. They were great. As I said on my blog, my biggest issue is JJ Abrams.

SPOILERS BELOW

Basically repeating A New Hope beat for beat and even repeating some big plot points (another Death Star, but this time, it's really big!), left me disappointed. And Abrams' scientific illiteracy and his lack of understanding of how big space really is (also evidenced in his Star Trek movies) really takes me out of the movie.

I get that it's science fantasy, not science fiction, but the original Star Wars didn't screw up the science/fantasy balance. This movie certainly does.Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com
