There's...You're right about that last line. There's genuine pleasure in the way Finney says and then walks away from her.

This is one of those films where disliking the main character is kind of socially difficult because the immediate response is that I wouldn't dislike a male character with the same traits. It's why I was quick to point out that I think Dr. House is an asshole, too. There's nothing wrong with being aggressive, but Brockovich seems to always work with the assumption that she's getting the short end.

To go further, that last scene with Finney is the perfect distillation of her character. Her immediate conclusion with no basis in fact is that she's being taken advantage of. That's just not a nice way to live.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-54671375997093393462014-04-08T07:20:58.842-05:002014-04-08T07:20:58.842-05:00I didn't quite have the same problems with the...I didn't quite have the same problems with the character that you did, but I agree I wouldn't want to live with her.

I completely agree on the Eckhart character. I wrote this off as the gender-reversed "hooker with a heart of gold" that sometimes appears in films where a man is the main character. Instead we have a handsome, single, biker who is always available on a moments notice to babysit her kids and never puts any pressure on her for sex that she doesn't want. Realistic? Not remotely. (See also 2000's Return to Me.)

Of all the lines in the movie my favorite is actually from Finney when at the end of the film he finally gets to leave her speechless - "Do they teach beauty queens to apologize? Because you suck at it!" Just the way he delivered it, like he had been waiting SO long to be able to do that, kills me.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
