Otherwise, they're pretty much the same thing. I certainly remember the entertainment press talking about the efforts to make The Last Seduction eligible for the Oscars.

It's a nasty little film noir about some nasty people, so it's the kind of thing I like, especially when it gets the good buzz this film got. And I've loved Linda Fiorentino since I saw The Moderns when it first came out (and I've seen it a few times since then).

How did I let 25 years pass before getting around to The Last Seduction?

It's great. It lives up to its reputation (although there are a few scenes where it's best not to think about it too hard).

It's too bad it didn't qualify for the Academy Awards. Linda Fiorentino would have that Oscar!

This is so good that I consider it "film noir" even though it's in color. I use the term neo-noir for color films, even if they are really good, like Red Rock West. The only other color film that I consider "film noir" instead of neo-noir is Chinatown, so The Last Seduction is in good company. If true, that may well go to show more of the inherent sexism in the film industry. There are plenty of men who are alleged to be terrible to work with, but they seem to get work.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-31540000857233854212013-11-09T21:08:03.259-06:002013-11-09T21:08:03.259-06:00I don't think you oversold it. When people reacted very positively to it, the producers released it theatrically and tried to get it nominated for Oscars, especially Fiorentino's performance, but anything that does not first appear in a movie theater is disqualified. The controversy over this is how I first heard of the film back in 1995.

The reason Fiorentino dropped of the map, if you believe Hollywood rumors, is that she was miserable to work with. She alienated so many people that she became a pariah. That's why she was not brought back after the first Men in Black film in the late 90s.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-20020591626765662222013-11-07T11:08:25.904-06:002013-11-07T11:08:25.904-06:00I may be overselling it. The film it reminded me most of was Body Heat, which I see I didn't reference above.

Again, I may be overselling it, but I really like Linda Fiorentino.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-32980435397844861732013-11-07T09:28:01.411-06:002013-11-07T09:28:01.411-06:00I like The Last Seduction, but I do think you may ...I like The Last Seduction, but I do think you may be over selling it a bit. Linda Fiorentino is great, but the movie seems to meander a lot and doesn't feel as sharp as something like Red Rock West. I wouldn't put it in the same ballpark as L.A. Confidential, but that may just be personal preference. I am really surprised by the fact that Fiorentino has basically dropped off the mat. She always brings something to the table, even in so-so films. Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12351431577484530230noreply@blogger.com
