I'm not much of a fan of that film, mostly because I really dislike Dietrich in it. And yeah, I flat hated The Paleface.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-60832026437795238962013-08-17T22:51:54.910-05:002013-08-17T22:51:54.910-05:00I've never seen the latter two, although I'...I've never seen the latter two, although I've heard of them. I had forgotten about The Paleface already, even though I saw it this year for the list. It didn't do much for me. This summer's The Lone Ranger might also qualify in the genre, although it's not an out and out comedy. Destry Rides Again from the list might qualify.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-15509686348476044252013-08-16T23:58:42.854-05:002013-08-16T23:58:42.854-05:00It's worth a revisit, provided you enjoy milit...It's worth a revisit, provided you enjoy military action films. The last 40 minutes are pretty tense and awesome if you love watching people kill Nazis.

I haven't seen Cat Ballou yet, but it's coming one of these days. As for Western comedies, in my experience they're all better than The Paleface, which is pretty terrible. But no love for Don Knotts and The Shakiest Gun in the West? Or James Garner's Support Your Local Gunfighter?SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-11268939077731635562013-08-16T22:38:45.939-05:002013-08-16T22:38:45.939-05:00I didn't know that about the channel and the l...I didn't know that about the channel and the list. Thanks for the info. It's also interesting that they started with one not in the current list. For what it's worth: it IS in the 101 War Movies You Must See Before You Die list put out by the same people.

I saw The Dirty Dozen a lot of years ago - maybe late 80s. It was sometime before Sleepless in Seattle because I got the joke about it in that movie. I remember Savalas as the religious freak, but not much else specific about the other characters. Maybe it's time for a revisit.

As for Lee Marvin, have you seen him in the dual roles of Kid Shelleen and Silvernose in the movie Cat Ballou? He won the Oscar for it. The movie is the best western comedy I've ever seen, although that is admittedly a genre without a lot of entries. All I'm coming up with right now off the top of my head for other choices are Blazing Saddles and From Noon Till Three.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
