I probably won't get there this month, but possibly in February.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-24730407911340032552016-01-25T14:20:43.995-06:002016-01-25T14:20:43.995-06:00The 1963 version kept my attention for the running...The 1963 version kept my attention for the running time, but I saw the 30s version more recently and it pretty much covered everything in under 2 hours.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-62205880557500480312016-01-25T09:43:46.880-06:002016-01-25T09:43:46.880-06:00I watched the 1963 version of Cleopatra last year,...I watched the 1963 version of Cleopatra last year, in one-hour segments spread out over a day and a half. When it's good, it's really really good! And then there are the parts that are quite boring.
The good news is that the last hour or so is generally quite watchable and entertaining, especialy when Roddy McDowell is onscreen.
The 1934 version is pretty much all-around awesome. I first saw it when I was a teenager and my "classic-film watching" was limited to 1930s horror films, the Marx Brothers, Tarzan and The Wizard of Oz, and I loved Cleopatra as much as any of the others. I feel better knocking this one off, though.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-70071892202971314382016-01-25T08:38:10.566-06:002016-01-25T08:38:10.566-06:00I haven't seen this, and probably never will. ...I haven't seen this, and probably never will. I'm just popping in to mention that the Elizabeth Taylor version of Cleopatra is four hours long. I think that's one of the longest Best Picture nominees. And that's if you're thinking about doing the 30s version and the 60s version as a double feature.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
