It's not something I feel I need to back to, but I found it kind of harmless, and actually a little interesting.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-9520019920999935852017-10-05T12:20:29.784-05:002017-10-05T12:20:29.784-05:00I've seen Tierra sin pan several times. Fortunately I read Spanish passably so I actually enjoy it in that format. (The YouTube version of Bunuel's The Milky Way is also in French with Spanish sub-titles, and it's a lot harder to follow than Tierra sin pan.)

I watched Hold Me While I'm Naked over the weekend. (I'm trying to get some of the shorter films out of the way by the end of the year.) It took me all afternoon. I watched it in five-minute segments. I thought I had seen enough experimental short films that I was learning to appreciate them and not just endure them. I really enjoyed Vinyl and Scorpio Rising, for example. But I think I had more trouble with Hold Me While I'm Naked than I did with Flaming Creatures or Blonde Cobra.

I've never seen The War Game. If I can find it, I'll watch it by the end of the year.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-32492347205670083632011-01-07T08:11:40.718-06:002011-01-07T08:11:40.718-06:00I've heard of Testament but haven't seen i...I've heard of Testament but haven't seen it. Another great nuke movie out there that did not get enough attention was "Testament" starring Jane Alexander which originally aired on PBS. The most interesting bit of this is that it centers on a community that falls apart as the apparatus of government begins to deteriorate after the attacks. No visual display explosion or destruction is necessary. Another reminder that the genie belongs in the bottle and the bottle needs to be buried in the deepest hole.Ken Loarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17207009680910318145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-31310468846099766462011-01-06T15:42:38.858-06:002011-01-06T15:42:38.858-06:00I don't disagree with you one bit. Kuchar's film is a goof with a little something behind it, and Bunuel's is fascinating in its own way. The War Game is still surprsingly effective and unflinching, and still holds up extremely well.

I remember years ago that ABC did a made-for-TV movie called The Day After that was to dramatize the effects of nulcear war. It was decent, not great, but pretty good. It also doesn't have half the impact of Watkins's one-third as long, black-and-white partial documentary.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-1686805578448936922011-01-06T09:10:18.373-06:002011-01-06T09:10:18.373-06:00Of the three, "The War Game" was the mos...Of the three, "The War Game" was the most impressive in my opinion. Takes me back to my army days in the late 70s as I sat through advanced NBC training while stationed in WEST Germany. Being one of the few in my company going through the training, I suffered a sense of impending doom for weeks that others just couldn't get. When I received "The War Game" from Netflix, it was accompanied by another Watkin's film "Culloden" about the British quashing of the Jacobite uprising of the 1700s. Well worth seeing as well, both films feel much like those old "Appointment With Destiny" series of the early 70s. Of course, I realize now that it should be the other way around since Watkin's films predated the series by about a decade.Ken Loarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17207009680910318145noreply@blogger.com
