I also recently had the opportunity to visit a few of these cave sites in northern Spain and southern France which were experiences I will never forget.

Herzog's 3D version of Cave of Forgotten Dreams is the next best thing to being there. And the whole made up bs at the end about nuclear emissions making glow in the dark animals was just completely out of left field and didn't deserve to be in the same movie as the paintings. I don't know what Herzog thought he was doing tacking that on. The images of the cave art were stunning, though.

I now know that you like reading science fiction. If you have not encountered it you may want to track down the 1981 Hugo Award winning short story Grotto of the Dancing Deer by Clifford D. Simak. It's not a "must read", but I think you might like it. If it's not in a collection of the author's works it can be found in the book The Hugo Winners Volume 5 1980-1982 edited by Isaac Asimov. Digging can be quite a thrill though my finds are mainly restricted to trillobites and sea urchins. A few years ago I went to the Niaux caves in the Pyrenees and that was an experience of a lifetime. Those animals on the walls spring to life and it is mindblowing to think of how old they are.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
