I liked it, too, but I think that makes you and me strange animals.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-34783526317820644952016-01-25T08:43:49.834-06:002016-01-25T08:43:49.834-06:00I agree Stella Dallas should have been nominated.
...I agree Stella Dallas should have been nominated.

I'd have Stage Door at the bottom, and for the reasons you mentioned.

I'd pick Zola for the win. I wasn't bored by it; in fact it kept me engaged. And it has the "important topic" characteristic you mentioned.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-88121514567876964262016-01-23T09:15:32.484-06:002016-01-23T09:15:32.484-06:00I think I'd put Stella Dallas in the running, ...I think I'd put Stella Dallas in the running, but I'd probably still give it to A Star is Born. It's a classic story, but Star does a lot more with it than most do.

Captains Courageous is also a classic story, but it really isn't anything more or different than that story. I love Spencer Tracy in it, but that's about as far as I'll go.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-66016250460258943322016-01-23T02:21:05.029-06:002016-01-23T02:21:05.029-06:00Let us assume that Stella Dallas was eligible and ...Let us assume that Stella Dallas was eligible and there you have your winner, with or without Stanwyck.
I think I would give some more love to Captains Courageous. It's funny that you'd mention Lost Horizon which didn't make the cut but is a faithful adaptation of the book and Stage Door which did is almost completely reinvented from its source material. George Kaufman who wrote the play joked that it was so changed it should have been retitled Screen Door. I love the film but when I read the play it was unrecognizable as the same thing.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.com
