I not only got handed mimeograph copies in class, I got to make them, which means I had access to the joyous purple mimeograph fluid. The first thing a bunch of us on my floor did as a group was go to the movies. Guess what film we saw.

Seven of us piled into a car that would seat two comfortably and four realistically. Needless to say, seatbelts weren't being worn. (There was no drinking and driving, though - even as college Freshman before MADD got going we weren't that stupid.)

We all loved the movie, of course. I guess I'm not as much of an old fogie as you are, since I still laugh my ass off at this. :-) I probably laugh the loudest at Leigh's expression when Cates tells her that when a guy "you knows" during oral sex about a quart or so comes out.

I do agree that Mr. Hand is badass, but I'm pretty sure I saw him that way the first time I saw the movie. Ray Walston in this role is part of the reason I liked watching the TV show Picket Fences since he played a judge who was more than a little bit of a clone of Mr. Hand.

One thing that hasn't aged well is some of the jokes and references. One joke that probably gets lost on today's viewers is when the teacher hands out tests and every single student sniffs the paper as they pass it back to the person behind them. It got a big laugh from all of us college Freshman because back in the day tests did not come from photocopiers, but from mimeograph machines. The chemicals used in them were quite pungent and it was rumored (although never observed by me) that sniffing in the fumes from the papers would get you high.
