It's not super common, but it's not so rare as to be jaw-dropping. It's far more common between British/American or Canadian/American.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-72091269967061656042012-09-13T11:31:08.383-05:002012-09-13T11:31:08.383-05:00Ah, alternative spellings – is that common? It's important for what it is and ...Yeah, that. It's important for what it is and it's great in its own way. I can wish that Disney had wised up to precisely what is wrong with it before Pixar made Brave this year. Naturally enough, when the girl in Brave decides she doesn't want an arranged marriage, rumors and reviews circulate that she must be a lesbian.

It's always two steps forward, one step back. If you really want to get into gender and sexual politics, search out a film called Miss Representation.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-83622716819890650022012-09-09T11:45:23.835-05:002012-09-09T11:45:23.835-05:00My favorite character is the Queen, and she's ...My favorite character is the Queen, and she's not in the film nearly as much as I want or as much as I remember. Snow White is, as you say, a very bland heroine, and the prince is laughable in his absence from most of the film.

Thanks for giving me new reasons to dislike Snow White. At least, I *think* I should be thanking you... Hell, I'm always looking for a reason to tear a film apart in terms of its gender issues. And no, I'm not being sarcastic there.

BUT... blah blah blah, nostalgia, first animated full length feature, and good animation at that. Can't really fight too hard against this one. Just wish the story was a little more... well, just wish the story was a little MORE, full stop.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-28337276903667396182012-09-09T09:43:39.022-05:002012-09-09T09:43:39.022-05:00Right--for as wrong as this gets so many things, i...Right--for as wrong as this gets so many things, it's impossible to dislike. "Immensely sweet" is a pretty good description and forces me to save most of my Disney's gender politics ranting for films like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-87675035632788484582012-09-09T02:34:35.335-05:002012-09-09T02:34:35.335-05:00Indeed, you are right of course. I showed this for my nieces last weekend and they absolutely loved it. They are 4 and 7.

My personal favourite change to the storyline is that Grumpy would turn out to be her true love.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
