Looks like Siobhan and I are paralleling each other in some of the movies we've seen recently.

Knowing this was actually a TV miniseries and not a movie (why is it in a best MOVIES book again?) I was expecting something more on the order of regular "endings" or cliffhangers, but I only saw a couple of those. Things blended together well.

I liked it and was figuring I would give it three stars, but the multiple heart-tugging endings, even though I knew they were coming, still were effective on me, and I gave it four stars.

My one real complaint is that I felt the female mental patient was by far the most interesting character in the first 45 minutes of the movie...then they forget about her for an hour and a half. Even in the reality of the miniseries Nicola was a psychiatric doctor for years and he never once thought of trying to find her? I actually would have liked to have seen a lot more of her story. Not that I wanted the whole thing to be longer; they could have sacrificed some of the parts of other stories.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-25942451598281827122012-08-27T01:09:57.561-05:002012-08-27T01:09:57.561-05:00Surprise, surprise, huh? An epic that's actually worth watching and really getting involved in.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-55295232976067967102012-08-27T00:28:13.027-05:002012-08-27T00:28:13.027-05:00I just checked this one off (and my goodness, it&#...I just checked this one off (and my goodness, it's a long one to check off) and, well, I really enjoyed it. I know, I'm just as shocked as the next guy. It's so lovely and low key and genuine and optimistic. Not constantly optimistic, but it has the aura of hope to it. I really got behind both Matteo and Nicola, and seeing as how I stuck this one out and saw it in one day, in practically one sitting, both Matteo and Nicola made me laugh and cry several times that day. The scene at the end with the two of them on that country path made me gasp and cry and smile all at once.

Like you, I think I was despairing a little before seeing this because of its length, but I needn't have. Unlike you, I had heard NOTHING about this one prior to watching it.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
