It takes the edge off Scottie's obsession that we know he is on the right track.
Otherwise it rightfully belongs to Hitchcock's greats.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-47468598443419490782012-11-17T23:32:14.337-06:002012-11-17T23:32:14.337-06:00It really just needs a little trimming. Pared down, it would get to the meat faster and feel a lot more visceral, I think.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-5469814995513141352012-11-17T07:06:58.534-06:002012-11-17T07:06:58.534-06:00Well, I was quite impressed with "Rebecca&quo...Well, I was quite impressed with "Rebecca". As a three act romance, horror and then thriller I think it works very well. I do not agree with you that it gets too long, but maybe it is because I consider it a 3-in-1 movie and so we need time. I do find it very interesting that we choose the same scene for the screenshot. Man, that housekeeper is scary!
I guess Hitchcock was really narrow on his selection of themes, but here I think it played out very well.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-85045092499811078472011-11-23T17:32:38.649-06:002011-11-23T17:32:38.649-06:00Yeah, I'm with you on all counts on this. He added a lot of cachet to liking the film so all of a sudden it was cool to appreciate what others missed about the movie. For me, it was so unmemorable that I literally watched it a second time and was quite a ways into it before I realized that I had already seen it a few years before.

As for Rebecca, I don't really consider that one of Hitchcock's top films, either. I remember thinking, "this won Best Picture?"

Give me Rear Window and North by Northwest anyday.Chiphttp://tipsfromchip.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-83467042718565768272011-11-23T10:19:20.508-06:002011-11-23T10:19:20.508-06:00Midge is terribly underused in this film. Still, given the choice between her and Kim Novak's malleable and mentally squishy Judy Barton...there's no contest. The girl with the glasses and the drawings of brassieres wins every time.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-3148849686217833432011-11-23T02:14:12.565-06:002011-11-23T02:14:12.565-06:00Yay for Midge! Here's my take on it.
http://thevelvetcafe.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/my-first-time-experience-of-vertigo/Jessicahttp://www.thevelvetcafe.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
