With a film like this, though, it doesn't end all at once--it takes us a long time to get to the closing moments.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-27950766895932028362016-03-24T16:17:04.956-05:002016-03-24T16:17:04.956-05:00Well, like I said, if you read Julius Caesar and A...Well, like I said, if you read Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra, you've got most of it. The stories that surround it seem far more interesting than the film we have.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-85378609913863014582016-03-24T16:15:58.709-05:002016-03-24T16:15:58.709-05:00It has been many years since I watched this in the...It has been many years since I watched this in the students film club at university and I only remember fragments. They are all centered on the scale of the sets and the, yes, opulence. Of the story itself I hardly remember anything. Guess that is telling.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-12273315448248264912016-03-24T09:39:22.183-05:002016-03-24T09:39:22.183-05:00I was somewhat dreading this before I saw it (four...I was somewhat dreading this before I saw it (four hours?) but I have to give the film it's due: it kept my attention for the whole running time. I didn't catch myself having just had my mind wander for five or ten minutes while I was watching. I have no plans to ever watch it again, though. I'll be interested to see what you think of the much shorter Colbert version, which still seems to touch on all the major points.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-4521580980814796542016-03-24T02:15:25.916-05:002016-03-24T02:15:25.916-05:00I felt the same way you did about the film; needed...I felt the same way you did about the film; needed a good trim. I did like the entrance of Taylor's Cleopatra to Harrison's Caesar, and the costumes are fun to look at.

The story behind the making of the film, from the first attempt to film it in London (and Taylor's near-death health scare) to the Taylor-Burton affair, is just as epic as the film itself.
