My go-to for most people is comedy, and specifically Sherlock Jr. because it's short, but consistently funny and very smart. But if I go on the hunt for a silent I'm more prone to seek out an adventure film-or maybe a Western IF it stars Gary Cooper.

I think that is because I'm not big on slapstick, or at least a little of it goes a long way. But I think there is a common thread between our two preferences. The physicality required for both keeps the inter-titles at a minimum so it's a purer experience. If I talk to anyone who is curious about silents that's always where I suggest they start. The Thief of Bagdad, The Sea Wolf or The Count of Monte Cristo is going to be a much easier introduction that Orphans of the Storm or heaven forbid Intolerance.

The one exception is anything with Clara Bow in it. Drama, comedy doesn't matter she's enough to get me there-a fascinating completely ALIVE presence on screen.

As far as this film goes it was okay but once was plenty. As you said it's Buster Keaton and he was one of the best, though I favor Harold Lloyd or Mabel Normand, but outside of him the picture wasn't much. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-36819874539020193802020-09-03T08:27:32.558-05:002020-09-03T08:27:32.558-05:00Keaton is my favorite of the silent comedians, alm...Keaton is my favorite of the silent comedians, almost entirely because of the physical stunts and his overall persona. Chaplin was almost certainly the most adaptable of the great silent comics--he's the only one to really transition well into talkies (eventually).

But none of them make me laugh like Keaton does.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-86780941237848022982020-09-03T01:27:18.450-05:002020-09-03T01:27:18.450-05:00This is a film I haven't seen as I too like Bu...This is a film I haven't seen as I too like Buster Keaton a lot as I just love his approach to stunts and his low-key humor as there's times where I think he's funnier than Charlie Chaplin though I think Chaplin is a better filmmaker.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
