I always feel a little manipulated when his films work, but this one really does work all the way through.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-51410720414226357072014-04-09T05:36:15.576-05:002014-04-09T05:36:15.576-05:00I do not think you need to be a sap to be touched ...I do not think you need to be a sap to be touched by George Bailey's deroute. When he falls apart it feels so much stronger and more real than most movies I can think of. The nauseous feeling of having the ground disappear beneath is superbly conveyed and absolutely recognizable.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-8617462414746866852011-12-30T12:16:53.654-06:002011-12-30T12:16:53.654-06:00It probably isn't a perfect film, but it does ...It probably isn't a perfect film, but it does what it wants to do perfectly. It always surprises me how long into the film we get before Clarence really shows up.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-89273721670317258892011-12-30T08:21:35.530-06:002011-12-30T08:21:35.530-06:00I don't think Capra's film is a perfect fi...I don't think Capra's film is a perfect film, it has some, yes, wonderful moments, but the middle section I found a bit dull. Perhaps like life, there are high points, and low points? I like how we can go through life and affect other people without even noticing, but obviously the risk is to help so much, that you forget your own individual goals.

I jumped on the bandwagon, and also recently reviewed It's A Wonderful Life:

http://moviesandsongs365.blogspot.com/2011/12/movie-of-week-its-wonderful-life-1946.htmlChrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-6129788102977071972011-12-26T09:44:16.546-06:002011-12-26T09:44:16.546-06:00That it is. It may simply be that A Christmas Story is so essentially American that it doesn't have the same resonance elsewhere.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-86713736894610625962011-12-26T05:46:23.197-06:002011-12-26T05:46:23.197-06:00It is strange that A Christmas Story fails to play...It is strange that A Christmas Story fails to play as well in the UK as it does in the States. It's A Wonderful Life gets the same reaction pretty much anywhere but A Christmas Story is usually forgotten under a pile that includes Home Alone and Jingle All The Way in England. Not quite sure why that is but I know, although I like the film it is one of my lesser favourites. But everyone should watch It's A Wonderful Life at Christmas...such a wholesome, perfect film for the period.Danhttp://www.top10films.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-37297079858772904032011-12-25T09:37:13.749-06:002011-12-25T09:37:13.749-06:00As well you should.
