I think it captured...It is certainly a brutal film. I think it captured the painful and disadvantaged world these characters grew up in very vividly. I agree that having a prior knowledge of the murders helps: I was too young to when these murders were discovered to remember them, but I had listened to a podcast that laid out the story quite well.
