It's like reality, but heightened in the grimiest way possible. I love that about him.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-52020869257836310592015-05-04T01:21:13.449-05:002015-05-04T01:21:13.449-05:00I really like that it goes from one-dimensional sp...I really like that it goes from one-dimensional spoofy to real and dark noir. Those fights scenes are beautifully made and no punches pulled. I read that it is acually a toned down version we see. That makes me wish for a directors cut. I wonder if it still exists...TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-80622948214600508812012-06-23T15:43:46.015-05:002012-06-23T15:43:46.015-05:00I know there are others; it just feels so jarring....I know there are others; it just feels so jarring. I look at a film like Out of the Past and see that happy resolution possible and then smashed and smashed again, and it makes me happy that this style exists.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-7202914379376724442012-06-23T15:26:47.169-05:002012-06-23T15:26:47.169-05:00Love this movie. In a resigned voice he says, "Moe's OK, she gotta make a living."

Thelma Ritter is in lots of old movies, so I'm surprised she's forgotten. She was in Rear Window for pete's sake.

This isn't the only Film Noir with a happy ending, see Fritz Lang's Woman in the Window and Hawks' The Big Sleep.Retro Houndhttp://www.retrohound.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-68902111829577288952012-06-22T16:50:00.093-05:002012-06-22T16:50:00.093-05:00When Joey's head bounced off the stairs, I sat...When Joey's head bounced off the stairs, I sat straight up. You won't be disappointed. If you do rewatch it, think about what the fights in The Avengers would look like filmed from the same angle, and a little tiny piece of you will die.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-31495552833718015202012-06-22T16:11:26.102-05:002012-06-22T16:11:26.102-05:00Great write-up! I didn't notice what you said about the fight scenes - now I want to go back and rewatch them.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
