He's so entertaining in this that it does work slightly to the detriment of the rest of the film. It's not as much fun when he's not there.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-432724792918697882016-01-31T11:42:51.484-06:002016-01-31T11:42:51.484-06:00I'd agree that Coburn is the best part of the ...I'd agree that Coburn is the best part of the film and you miss him when he's not on screen but Arthur and McCrea pull their weight. They have a nice spark between them which helps their scenes together. I think a glance at the remake "Walk, Don't Run" and the lack of connection between Jim Hutton and Samantha Eggar, able players but they don't share much if any chemistry with each other, shows how much the original pair bring to the film.

However without Coburn the film would be just a mild time passer and since my choice for best supporting performance of the year, Jack Carson in The Hard Way, wasn't nominated I can't imagine a better winner than he.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-99896318650030862015-06-26T12:37:06.056-05:002015-06-26T12:37:06.056-05:00Claude Rains is yet another person unforgivably sn...Claude Rains is yet another person unforgivably snubbed through his career. Cary Grant and Joseph Cotten (never even nominated!) are on that list as are my beloved Barbara Stanwyck and almost as beloved Myrna Loy (also never nominated!).

Coburn's performance here is infectiously joyous. I don't cover Supporting categories, but I can't imagine this is one I'd want to overturn.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-40467461701244503632015-06-26T12:03:35.276-05:002015-06-26T12:03:35.276-05:00Damn the torpedoes! I adore this one.marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.com
