It's beautifully filmed and that's the biggest noteworthy aspect for me. I can see where it's trying to go, but there isn't enough emotionally for me to connect to. When we've got characters who come across as robotic, I find myself completely detached from it.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-57722927520806264222016-02-08T17:50:32.178-06:002016-02-08T17:50:32.178-06:00This isn't a film I would recommend for a non-...This isn't a film I would recommend for a non-film geek, because I think that person would start to look at me a lot differently. On the other hand, I would absolutely recommend this to a film geek because of how it is filmed and the rather stunning transitions Chan-wook Park works into it. Like you said, we all know there's something off about him, but we can see why India is fascinated by him. Kidman's part didn't work for me as much, and perhaps that is due to your mention of emotional coldness.

Good call on comparing this to Shadow of a Doubt. Of course, back when that was made there was no way they could have included something like the piano scene.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-60656162858786149782016-02-08T16:58:21.335-06:002016-02-08T16:58:21.335-06:00I, like you, appreciated it more than loved it. The use of clothing as a symbol of India's emergance as an adult was also very clever. I also enjoyed not quite knowing what era we were in. Is it 1960s America? Or simply a highly stylised modern day?

For me the problem was that there was so much going on in terms of things on screen, and themes, that it at times felt overstuffed. Though I couldn't tell you what exactly to cut (maybe the rape scene as you suggest). Julia Machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09041411551162128922noreply@blogger.com
