In fact, I think perhaps they met while making this movie and were married a year later.<br /><br />Olivier's showboating worked for me all the way through--it comes across as an element of Alfie's personality. He's always "on," even with the people with whom he's supposed to be relaxed. He's always the man on stage because he always wants that sort of acclaim. I do remember it being somewhat stagy, which in the parts where Olivier is showboating works well but less so elsewhere, but that cast is just irresistible. <br /><br />It was a bit odd seeing Sir Larry and Joan Plowright as father and daughter knowing of their long marriage but after the initial strangeness they worked well together. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.com
