There are enough good vocal performances in a given year that the category is more than necessary.

I propose adding that category as well as one for Best Stunt Work. I also advocate combining sound editing and sound mixing into a single award. That would give us 25 total.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-7842059124118741132015-06-01T10:32:52.838-05:002015-06-01T10:32:52.838-05:00It is a must-see for me. I don't think you've seen it yet, but Scarlett Johannson was absolutely integral to the movie Her working as well as it did. She's the voice of the AI - the "her" of the title. She actually did win Best Actress for this at a European festival.

And of course, there's Andy Serkis as Gollum not only doing the voice, but the motion capture as well.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-73284826623043531882015-05-31T15:33:22.409-05:002015-05-31T15:33:22.409-05:00Fair enough. I think the sequel is much better than the original, the original being fatally tainted by it's terribly contradictory message.

If you haven't seen Shrek 3 or 4, stop here. Kids are smart, and they're able to understand worlds that are logically and internally consistent. Filmmakers have figured this out and ignore it at their peril.

The best thing about Puss is not the character (although he's great) but that Banderas is absolutely the best possible casting for the character. Could anyone else have legitimately pulled off that character that well?

It's more evidence that the Academy should include a "Best Vocal/Voiceover Performance" category. I agree Puss...I liked the sequel quite a bit, too. I agree Puss in Boots was the best add. You didn't mention it, maybe because you felt it was obvious, but something that might be lost now seeing this more than 10 years later is that Banderas had recently played Zorro in the reboot of that franchise. I got the biggest kick out of essentially seeing Zorro if he were a cat. Having had a few cats growing up, the scene that made me laugh the hardest was when Puss was licking himself (discretely turned from the camera, but with the classic "fully extended leg" that cats do) and he immediately turns and tries to charm the woman who approaches him.

I heard a story afterward that either illustrates kids are a lot smarter than some adults give them credit for, or that filmmakers are given credit for being smarter than they actually are. The filmmakers said that far and away the number one question they got from kids about this movie was "When Donkey changed into the stallion what did Dragon turn into?"

They were stunned because it had never even occurred to them. The kids clearly followed the logic that if Shrek's change made Fiona change, then Donkey's change would also make Dragon change. After some scrambling they started telling the kids that Dragon had become a Pegasus.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
