It really stuck with 13 year old me. Sorry to hear it's not very good.Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-78985650757731426632021-10-28T09:51:30.570-05:002021-10-28T09:51:30.570-05:00I can imagine that Carpenter's original script...I can imagine that Carpenter's original script was better than this, because Carpenter is generally better than this--and he was especially better than this in the late '70s. This was hugely disappointing. I went into it cold and had some real hopes for it.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-47233388418447994682021-10-28T09:46:48.720-05:002021-10-28T09:46:48.720-05:00I saw this when it came out. It was Faye's first big vehicle after winning her Oscar and produced by Jon Peters who was red hot at the time so the hullabaloo around it was big, and was looking forward to it. <br /><br />Aside from those two factors it had so much else going for it-that cast, big production values even Barbra Streisand singing the title song (she had been the intended lead but despite being involved with Peters at the time dropped out) but it was an overlong mess. Apparently Carpenter wrote the initial script which was much better but to get the big financing other hands became involved in it and this is what we ended up with. <br /><br />It made a lot of money because of all the names attached but even when it was out and popular it was critically savaged for being so illogical. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-80216109380585972312021-10-27T20:38:10.496-05:002021-10-27T20:38:10.496-05:00Yeah, I agree with 100% of that. This should have been so much better and Tommy Lee Jones was terribly miscast.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-58848289092658775852021-10-27T20:27:01.336-05:002021-10-27T20:27:01.336-05:00I wanted to like this but it felt undercooked and ...I wanted to like this but it felt undercooked and I didn't buy Tommy Lee Jones as a love interest as this was a film that didn't work for me. Especially as I expected more since it was written by John Carpenter who was starting off a hell of a run during the 1970s and into the 1980s. I fucking love John Carpenter but this was disappointing.thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
