When they decided to slide in a 1994 movie for the latest update, they added Lamerica when 12 Monkeys was just sitting there.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-36716090830567503502020-11-05T05:59:03.775-06:002020-11-05T05:59:03.775-06:00It does sound like we had a very similar reaction ...It does sound like we had a very similar reaction to "The Heartbreak Kid". "Like biting down on metal" is a very apt description.
My guess is that the editors wanted to include an Elaine May movie. Why they picked this over "A New Leaf" is a mystery. Maybe there were already too many 1971 movies on the List? No, wait, they did add no less than three extra movies to 1971 in the revision...
Thank you for mentioning "Silent Running". I missed that when selecting my off-List 72 movies. I may have to include it.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-13718150424925705022017-10-17T06:50:35.859-05:002017-10-17T06:50:35.859-05:00This was not my favorite. It felt very self-indulgent to me, like I was supposed to care about a character who is ultimately selfish, spoiled, and stupid.

I don't, I didn't. I don't understand why this made the list.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-24466718443078855352017-10-09T01:26:34.600-05:002017-10-09T01:26:34.600-05:00I watched The Heartbreak Kid this afternoon on You...I watched The Heartbreak Kid this afternoon on YouTube and WOW, the actress playing Lila is HILARIOUS!

I thought Cybil Shepherd was really good too. I was watching her a lot (because she is stunningly beautiful) and noting her face and I was really struck by what a really good actress she is without really getting credit for that because she is so stunning.

Charles Grodin and Eddie Albert are also really good.

And then there's director Elaine May. Has anybody seen Woody Allen's Small-Time Crooks? May is in it, and she is HILARIOUS! I'd heard it wasn't very good but I finally saw it a few weeks ago and it was pretty damn funny, especially Elaine May.
