I like what the movie had to say and think it’s a film that was ahead of its time. That being said, I’d go with Powell and Pressburger as well. 1001: A Film Odyssey is produced, directed and written by Chris, a librarian.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04803620768028761898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-59874985180658009802018-08-03T19:31:01.085-05:002018-08-03T19:31:01.085-05:00I don't strongly object to Tourneur winning th...I don't strongly object to Tourneur winning this; he'd be my clear second choice in an open field.

I'm not a huge fan of Odd Man Out, so there's a reason I didn't mention it up top. It's another one that is more about the performance than the whole film for me. He'd be my choice.

So if I'd had my way the category would have run this way:

Edward Dmytryk-Crossfire
Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger-Black Narcissus
Carol Reed-Odd Man Out
George Seaton-Miracle on 34th Street
Jacques Tourneur-Out of Past-Winnerjoel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-74218465969818481972018-08-03T15:29:37.583-05:002018-08-03T15:29:37.583-05:00I agree with both of these comments. Still, so much of why it works comes from the directors' chair(s). But more than that, it is a technical marvel. You absolutely believe this is taking place in the Himalayas and not as it happens on a parking lot in England. Not certain that is can be creditted to the direction though, but a marvel none the less.
Beside that Out of the past is my candidate as the best film noir ever made and noir is all about direction.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
