He tends to apply his lessons and morals with the subtlety of a meat tenderizer.

That said, a lot of what he does so inelegantly and with too much force works for me, perhaps in spite of itself. Going along with what Robert said, "juvenille" is often a word that comes to mind when his work falls short. In fact, I just used that very word a few days ago in describing his script for "8 Million Ways to Die" when I reviewed that film.

On an artistic level, I see the genesis of much of what Stone does here with the editing, the film stock, etc in "JFK." But that film uses it all so much more effectively. Here, Stone cranks it all up to 11 and seems content to make us listen to the feedback that comes out. I get what he was trying to do...I just don't think he succeeds.Forgotten Filmshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03674207170929931815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-76505109693027993932013-05-02T16:09:22.579-05:002013-05-02T16:09:22.579-05:00I don't think that's too uncommon a reacti...I don't think that's too uncommon a reaction. I'...I saw this way back when it came to video. I'm with Robert on this that I felt it was just a piece of crap masquerading as high art because of the name of the director.
